Vehicle description

If the Miura was the heart and the Countach the fantasy of Lamborghini, then the Espada was probably the reason. This Lamborghini Espada was delivered in 1973 in night blue with mustard-colored interior to Achilli Motors in Milan and found its first owner from there. Already in 1977, the car came to Switzerland, where it was finally taken over by the last owner in 1999. What followed was not an ordinary restoration, but a long-term passion project. Over a period of nine years, the Espada was completely rebuilt through extensive self-directed work. Not with the goal of quick completion, but with the claim of doing justice to the vehicle. Since the completion of the work in 2008, the Lamborghini has been regularly driven, maintained, and inspected. This is exactly what you feel today. The car presents itself in a very beautiful condition and does not appear like a vehicle that merely exists, but like one that has actually been driven. The current color combination of the iconic Lamborghini shade "Giallo Fly" and the beige interior gives the Espada exactly the presence that its extraordinary lines deserve. The bodywork looks futuristic, elegant, and surprisingly modern even more than fifty years after its creation. Under the long hood works the legendary Lamborghini V12, which made the brand's name famous worldwide. Already at startup, the engine reminds you that you are not sitting in an ordinary Gran Turismo. The twelve-cylinder runs cultivated, but at the same time develops a mechanical drama that only a classic Italian high-performance engine can produce. The condition of the Espada, restored in 6'000 hours, is very good all around. Slight signs of wear are present, but no defects are known. The car drives wonderfully and is at home on winding alpine roads as well as on the highway. Should the high-revving V12 not deliver the right sound, a rare Berlin 8000 Super Arimat from Blaupunkt takes care of it. The audio system is easily recognizable by its separate gooseneck control and cost as much as a small car back then. Particularly pleasing is the extensive documentation. Although the original service booklet is currently not traceable, there is an extensive collection of invoices, drawings, documents and other records that comprehensibly accompany the history and restoration of the vehicle. In addition, numerous rare spare parts are available for an extra charge, including a complete original wheel set. This Espada is not for people who are just looking for a classic car. It is for people who are looking for a Lamborghini that you don't see on every corner. While models like Miura, Countach or Diablo shaped the public perception of the brand, the Espada was the true core of the company. When Lamborghini began to compete with Ferrari in the 1960s, Ferruccio Lamborghini pursued a different philosophy than many of his competitors. He primarily wanted to build luxurious Gran Turismos for fast and comfortable travel, not race cars. It was from this idea that the Espada was born. The basis was the futuristic concept vehicle Marzal, designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone. Gandini, one of the most important automotive designers of the 20th century, later also drew the Miura and the Countach. With the Espada, however, he created something completely different. The extremely flat roofline, the generously glazed body, and the elongated rear made the Espada one of the most distinctive automobiles of its time. Even today, its shape appears futuristic and clearly stands out from other Gran Turismos of the early seventies. Technically, Lamborghini relied on Giotto Bizzarrini's proven V12 engine. The legendary designer had originally developed Ferrari's famous 250 GTO engines and created one of the most significant twelve-cylinder units in automotive history for Lamborghini. In the Espada, this V12 delivered up to 350 PS, depending on the version, giving the vehicle impressive driving performance. At the same time, the car offered something that practically no other supercar of its time could provide: four full-size seats. The Espada was not an uncompromising exotic, but a true Gran Turismo for long journeys. Four people could travel comfortably at high speed across Europe and enjoy the unmistakable sound of the Lamborghini V12. Between 1968 and 1978, only around 1,200 units of all series were produced. This makes the Espada one of the rarest and at the same time most interesting models in classic Lamborghini history today. For a long time, it stood in the shadow of its more famous brothers. But that has changed in recent years. More and more collectors recognize how significant the model actually is. The Espada was not just a Lamborghini - it was the Lamborghini with which Ferruccio Lamborghini realized his true vision.
