Vehicle description

When Audi presented the RS4 in 1999, the idea was as crazy as it was brilliant: to pack the performance of a sports car into the body of a family station wagon. More than two decades later, the RS4 has lost none of its fascination. This example from 2000 presents itself inside and out in classic black and is in an astonishingly good, well-maintained condition. Even when standing still, the B5 looks significantly more aggressive than a normal A4 Avant: Wider fenders, a striking front, and precisely that subtle restraint that distinguishes a real RS. Under the hood works the legendary, Cosworth-modified, 2.7-liter Biturbo V6, which in this vehicle delivers around 420 PS thanks to Stage 2 tuning. Thanks to Wagner intercoolers, a Milltek sports exhaust system, and perfectly tuned peripherals, the drivetrain reacts spontaneously, powerfully, and with precisely the vehemence that made the B5 RS4 famous. Numerous sensible modifications further sharpen the driving experience. The KW coilover suspension gives the vehicle precise road holding, while braided steel brake lines and performance brakes ensure appropriate deceleration. The mounted Vossen rims with spacers not only enhance the appearance but also give the RS4 an even more confident presence. The retrofitted FIS-Control allows relevant driving data, such as current boost pressure, to be displayed directly via the original driver information system. Additionally, a short shifter makes the connection between driver and vehicle noticeably more direct. The result is an RS4 that doesn't just possess its qualities on paper. It drives precisely, quickly, and astonishingly modern. At the same time, it preserves precisely that mechanical character that many current high-performance vehicles are increasingly losing. The optimizations and work on the vehicle were professionally carried out and are both verifiable and registered. In the last 10 years, approximately 40'000 CHF have been invested in the RS4, and in addition to the receipts, all original documents are available – including a richly filled service booklet. For us, the RS4 B5 is one of the very rare station wagons that can simultaneously be a family car, travel vehicle, classic, and a true sports car. Despite its versatility, the car can do all this very, very well and always looks fantastic. It was not only the first RS4 ever but also established a vehicle category that remains an Audi trademark to this day: the uncompromising high-performance station wagon. The roots of the project date back to the Audi RS2 Avant from 1994, which was developed jointly with Porsche and is considered a pioneer of high-performance station wagons. After the RS2 attracted great attention, Audi decided in the late 1990s to develop an independent RS model. The result was the RS4 Avant, introduced in 1999, based on the Audi A4 of the B5 series. The vehicle was developed by Audi Sport in cooperation with Cosworth Technology, which played a major role in engine development. The heart of the vehicle was the 2.7-liter V6 Biturbo. Compared to the S4, the engine received numerous modifications, including larger turbochargers, revised intake paths, larger intercoolers, and reinforced components. The result was a standard 380 PS and 440 Nm of torque – values that even advanced sports cars struggled with in the late 1990s. Power was exclusively transmitted via a manual six-speed gearbox and permanent Quattro all-wheel drive. Precisely this combination makes the appeal of the RS4 to this day. There is no dual-clutch automatic, no electronic filters, and no artificial staging. The driver is an active part of the action. Visually, the RS4 differed significantly from the regular A4 Avant. The body was massively widened to create space for the wider track and larger wheels. The flared fenders remain one of the most striking features of the model to this day and give the car its unmistakable appearance. Today, the B5 is considered one of the most sought-after RS models ever. Many enthusiasts see it as the most authentic representative of the RS family. It combines compact dimensions, manual shifting, biturbo power, and all-wheel drive in a form that no longer exists at Audi today. The RS4 B5 comes from a time when Audi still wanted to prove what was possible. And that's why it still feels so special today.
